West Texas and the Chihuahuan Dessert was stunning this time of year. There were wildflowers every where on our drive down. Here are the highlights of the trip (warning, it is conspicuously similar to the Day Tripper’s version):

Marfa: Food Shark (marfalafel), Fat Lyles (fried chicken and biscuits), Marfa Squeeze (butternut squash and mango smoothie, whaaaat?), the stunning Hotel Paisano, the infinitely cool El Cosmico, and the fact that Jack got to see his first Andy Warhol paintings. Also, we went to an amazing garage sale, but that can’t really be repeated by the masses.

Terlingua: The drive down, the stunning beauty of the desert, the crowd and guitars outside of the Starlight Theatre, and the general groovy-feel of the place.

My absolute favorite part of the trip was the drive back on the River Road from Terlingua to Marfa. It was a gorgeous morning to celebrate with John.

It is amazing how one minute we are photographing a family’s wedding, then we are photographing their Christmas card, their infant, and then that infant’s baptism portraits. I feel like if I blink we’ll be taking Baby Wampach’s senior portraits. This session was really important to the Wampachs. Dave’s family was in town from Chicago for the baptism, including his own godmother! The gown was the same baptismal dress Katy, her brother, her niece, her nephew and her dad all wore. It was a very special and family-centric afternoon at the park.

After dropping John off to photograph the guys, I drove to the church to meet the girls. My first thought when I saw Allison was that she was gorgeous. She has an easy smile and fantastic laugh. She was also one of the most organized brides we have ever worked with. Before the ceremony, Allison and Ryan shared a private “first look” together. It gave them a moment to just be together before the ceremony. With all the partying that went on afterward, it was a sweet time. And when I say there was partying, I mean it. I’ve never met a bunch of groomsmen who could dance as well as these guys. They kept the party going! Many congrats to Allison and Ryan. Thank you for letting us be a part of your day!

John was in Austin early in the week to photograph their intimate Leap Year Day wedding in downtown Austin. Ben’s dad performed the sweet ceremony. Their marriage license was even signed by the Rick Perry! Friday, I drove down to join John to photograph their second ceremony and reception at the Villa Antonia, which is nestled in the hills north of Austin. Villa Antonia is a really unique venue. It’s full of unique niches and beautiful views. The couple surrounded themselves with the most supportive friends and family, which made the beautiful day relaxed. Their guests even got to enjoy cigars rolled by an expert. The evening was spent under twinkle lights with a cool Hill Country breeze. We were lucky to not only photograph their wedding but to be there as friends. See more of Echo and Ben’s wedding.
